How do I apply for a Student Visa?
|

| Different Student Visas: |
|
| F-1:
Most college students and students attending school. |
| J-1:
Exchange programs. Used for students mostly who are graduate students doing research or medical residency. |

First Step
|
| 1.
Pick a College or University in the United States -
Must be an accredited school.
|
| 2.
Get Accepted -
For a full degree program.
|
| 3.
Schedule a Visa interview.
|
|
|
What to Bring to the Interview?
|
|
| 1. Proof you are going to come back to Israel: |
|
Temporary Visa
"Prove you are not "Intending Immigration"
|
|
| 2. I-20 Form (F1) or DS-2019 (J1): |
|
| I-20 also called the I-20A-B. |
|
Only for F1 Visas.
Tells Consular Officer how long you will study, how much the program will cost, etc.
|
| DS-2019, also called Certificate of Eligibility, |
Only for J1 Visas.
Tells Consular Officer about the 2-Year Rule, length of program, etc.
(Both Forms must be originals).

|
| 3. Demonstrate knowledge of English: |
|
Conduct interview in English.
Can read English.
Will you need to take English courses in the U.S.?
|
|
| 4. Sufficient money for college, and: |
|
Are you paying for school? Scholarship? Your parents?
Demonstrate enough money for first year of expenses.
Demonstrate access to enough money for the rest of the program.
|
|
| 5. SEVIS receipt: |
|
Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS).
Pay online with an international credit card. (www.FMJFee.com).
Pay via Western Union.
Bring the receipt to the interview.
$100 fee.

|
|
Working While in School
|
|
First year - may work on-campus only.
After first year - may apply to DHS for off-campus work authorization.
Must be a full-time student.
Can not work more than 20 hours a week.

|
Miscellaneous Tips:
|
|
Fill in all forms completely before the interview, including the DS-156 application.
Men between the ages of 16 and 46 must also complete a DS-157 form.
Have the exact address of where you will be staying in the U.S. at the interview.
Check the Embassy website or email us before the interview if you have any questions.
